De'Suan Dixon

The Dixon Foundation’s vision is to impact families worldwide, with children being the priority. Children are the future. Their mindset and exposure is important. We will build a brighter future through successful educational and wellness programs. Our Foundation was established to inspire underrepresented populations by influencing them to realize success exists outside of their comfort zone. We will set the standard for success, one child at a time.

MY
STORY

Dr. De’Suan Dixon always dreamed of empowering our youth to reach their full potential athletically and academically. An outstanding athlete, De’Suan’s passion for sports led him in a direction to create “The Dixon Foundation.” During his childhood, De’Suan was motivated by his hard working mother, Sylvia Barber. In the process of providing for 4 boys and 1 girl, Sylvia, a single mother, started her career as a full time factory worker at Hager Hinge in Greenville, MS. In 1989, Sylvia became pregnant with her youngest son, De’Suan Dixon, while working at the factory. It was during her normal work hours when she went into labor and she had to be rushed to the hospital and deliver her youngest son. After giving birth to De’Suan, she discovered that she could no longer work in the factory due to being diagnosed with scoliosis with the understanding that she was a risk to the company. Immediately, she went into childcare. Sylvia started off taking care of 1 child in a 1 bedroom apartment on Main St. in Leland, MS. After 20 years, Sylvia has impacted over 400 kids in one of the most successful Childcare Centers in the state of Mississippi, Little Darling’s Childcare Center. De’Suan watched his mother work tirelessly to make ends meet for her family while running her childcare business.

For De’Suan, after competing as a college student athlete for Jackson State University in basketball and football while obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education & Recreation, a Master’s Degree in Sport Science, he knew the trajectory on life had changed and his calling was to help inspire our youth to experience a brighter future. Knowing the importance of education and influence, De’Suan continued his education by obtaining a Doctorate Degree in Educational Administration.

In 2022, De’Suan’s tenure as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for Jackson State University ended after 10 years. As a result, he decided he wanted to dedicate more of his time to empowering youth. De’Suan was inspired by the love and passion that his mother had for children. He never forgot what his mother often said, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Similar to his mother’s footsteps, De’Suan created his nonprofit, “The Dixon Foundation.” De’Suan is led by God and his belief is that he has the power to make an impact on every child he encounters. De’Suan knows that there are no shortcuts on his journey, but with hard-work and dedication, he will create a brighter future for underrepresented youth. The Dixon Foundation is led and inspired by his mother’s spirit of integrity, growth, achievement, and empowerment. Today, The Dixon Foundation will continue to impact the lives of our future leaders.
